About Anji K
Anji Yeonji Kim is a jewelry designer whose interest expands into fashion and art. She was born and raised in Korea and moved to Canada in 2001. Having a mother who is a jewellery artist herself, Kim grew up with an abundant exposure to art. The combination of artistic influences and changing environments has given Kim opportunities to experience and observe people and cultures with different angles; she disregards conventional and traditional perception. Kim manages her jewelry line ‘anji.k’, which combines her artistic sensuality with her interest in current urban street fashion and the contemporary art scene..
“My works reflect on my perception and notion of the visual beauty; they are constitution of fragmentation and irony appropriation formed in ways to shape the visual experience. I strive to perceive my surrounding without the intervention of convention. The imageries that attract me are often of subject matters that defy the usual notion of beauty; raw, rough, and undiscovered. Then I juxtapose these images into jewelry that are visually polished, rich, and strong, in a fashion that intensify the beauty of its essence to keep eyes engaged in the process of looking. Whether the evoked reaction is love or hate, or content or confused, my intention to challenge the viewers perception is fulfilled.
